Interactive vs. Distributed Storytelling

For some time, I've been arguing that teaching journalists Flash -- the vogue technology pushed in many newsrooms -- was silly; however, I couldn't put my objections into human-speak. (And apparent...

Get it straight: For about 180 years newspapers haven't charged for the journalism they do http://www.newsfuturist.com/2009... Well done, @jeffsonderman.
The author writes on how this post went viral http://www.newsfuturist.com/2009... ... "As best I can reconstruct, a few of my Twitter followers started retweeting the post link late Wednesday. The firestorm really started, though, after former washingtonpost.com Editor Jim Brady and later NYU journalism professor Jay Rosen tweeted it." - Jay Rosen

Cameron/Martin - thanks for the feedback. If embedding of Google Spreadsheets is similar to how it is done now in web pages that makes it difficult to collaborate because you can't edit or see formula. So you still have to provide a link directly to the Spreadsheet for those purposes. I am assuming the Wordpress extension is also write-only? - Jean-Claude Bradley
Currently the wordpress extension only allows people with Wave accounts to add to the embedded wave. I would guess it would be relatively practicable to have a robot proxy that let people with verifiable accounts add back to the wave but I suspect the edges would be problematic, as would preventing spam, which is why everything is tied down so much at the moment. - Cameron Neylon

THE head of Australia's largest newspaper company, John Hartigan, has delivered an optimistic verdict on the future of journalism, arguing that Australian newspapers are holding up well compared with their counterparts in Britain and the US. But Mr Hartigan -- the chairman and chief executive of News Limited, which owns and publishes The Australian -- said newspapers would have to change to survive, delivering more relevant stories written by highly qualified, specialist writers. - mathew ingram
